Lee Andrews\ Lee Andrews Thompson was born in 1936, in Goldsboro, North Carolina and died in 2016.

He was a American doo-wop singer.

Himself & the Hearts was a doo-wop quintet from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US.

They came together in 1953.

The group recorded on the Gotham, Rainbow, Mainline, Chess, United Artists, Grand and Gowen labels.

They were managed by Kae Williams, in 1957 and 1958 they had their three biggest hits, “Teardrops”, “Long Lonely Nights” and “Try the Impossible”.

Together it consisted of Lee Andrews (lead), Roy Calhoun (first tenor), Thomas “Butch” Curry (second tenor), Ted Weems (baritone) and Wendell Calhoun (bass).

And Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, drummer and producer for the Grammy Award-winning hip-hop group The Roots, was Lee Andrews’ son, and cites growing up with doo-wop as a major influence in his music.

He left behind his daughters Thelma “Kandi” Parham, Donn Thompson and a son Dayne Thompson.

Lee Andrews passes away at 79 yrs old.
