Lawrence Fontaine Snowden was born on April 14, 1921, and died on February 18, 2017.

He was a retired lieutenant general in the United States Marine Corps.

Lawrence F. Snowden was commissioned in 1942 and retired in 1979.

He was an alumnus of Northwestern University, the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the University of Virginia.

The general held Commands position such as include Chief of Staff, United States Forces Japan (from 1972 to 1975) and Chief of Staff, Headquarters Marine Corps (from 1977 to 1979).[2]

Snowden’s military decorations include the Navy Distinguished Service Medal with gold star, Legion of Merit with ‘V’ for Valor device and four gold stars, Purple Heart and gold star, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal.
