He was an American football player and coach.

Cooper served as the head football coach at the University of Mississippi from 1974 to 1977, compiling a record of 21–23.

He was named the SEC Coach of the Year in 1975.

Cooper later served as a head tennis coach and assistant football coach at Benedictine Military School in Savannah, Georgia.

He died at his home on Skidaway Island.
