Katy Perry

Katy Perry was born on October 25th, 1984, in Santa Barbara, California. Perry started taking singing lessons around the age of 9 and learned to play the guitar when she was only 13. Around this time, she began rebelling against her stringent upbringing by piercing her own nose. She soon became interested in pursuing a career in music.

Perry got her GED and moved to Los Angeles to work with producer and songwriter Glen Ballard, who had worked with such artists as Christina Aguilera and Alanis Morissette. She was only 17 years old at time, and being on her own proved hard-hitting.

Perry released her first single, “Ur So Gay.” Pop superstar Madonna became a fan of the song, calling it one of her favourites of the moment. The song drew comparisons to the likes of Lily Allen, another singer known for her odd, naughty words.

On August 4, 2009, she performed an opening act for one date of the band No Doubt’s Summer Tour 2009. The Matrix’s self-titled debut album, which Perry had recorded with the band in 2004, was released as a result of her solo success, she requested to hold the release until the fourth single of One of the Boys had been commissioned, but The Matrix was released onto iTunes on January 27, 2009, prior to the release of fourth single “Waking Up in Vegas”.

On July 22, 2009, Perry recorded a live album titled MTV Unplugged, which featured acoustic performances of tracks from her debut album, as well as two new songs. It was released on November 17, 2009.

Perry also appeared on two other artists’ singles; she was featured on a remix of Colorado-based band 3OH!3’s song “Star struck” in September 2009,and a duet with Timbaland entitled “If We Ever Meet Again”, from his album Shock Value II, in January 2010.

Katy has started her own record label called “Metamorphosis Music” and has signed her very first artist Ferras, who was signed to Capitol Records back in 2007 with Katy Perry.

He had released an EP the same day that the record label news was released to the public. She married Russell Brand on October 23, 2010, in a traditional Hindu ceremony near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan.

Brand announced on December 30, 2011, that they were divorcing after fourteen months of marriage. Perry later stated that conflicting career schedules and him wanting children before she was ready led to the end of their marriage, and that he never spoke to her again after sending a text message that he was divorcing her.

She was initially so distraught over their divorce that she contemplated suicide. The marriage was officially dissolved in February 2012.

Perry has received many awards and nominations, and been included in the Forbes list of “Top-Earning Women in Music” for 2011, 2012, and 2013.

Throughout her career, she has sold 11 million albums and 81 million singles worldwide, making her one of the best-selling artists of all time. Perry has also ventured into celebrity endorsement and released fragrances Purr, Meow!, and Killer Queen. In July 2011, she made her film debut voicing Smurfette in The Smurfs.

She has been in a relationship with singer John Mayer since mid 2012, the two released a duet together called “Who You Love” in 2013.
