Karl-Otto Apel was born on March 15, 1922, and died on May 15, 2017.

He was a German philosopher and Professor Emeritus at the University of Frankfurt am Main.

Apel developed a distinctive philosophical approach which he called “transcendental pragmatics” (Transzendentalpragmatik).

He served as a lecturer at the University of Mainz in 1961.

Apel was a full professor of philosophy at the University of Kiel from 1962 to 1969, at the University of Saarbrücken from 1969 to 1972, and at the University of Frankfurt am Main from 1972 to 1990.

Karl-Otto Apel passed away at 95 years old.
