Karl-Otto Apel was born on March 15, 1922, and died on May 15, 2017.

He was a German philosopher and Professor Emeritus at the University of Frankfurt am Main.

Apel developed a distinctive philosophical approach which he called “transcendental pragmatics” (Transzendentalpragmatik).

He served as a lecturer at the University of Mainz in 1961.

Apel was a full professor of philosophy at the University of Kiel from 1962 to 1969, at the University of Saarbr├╝cken from 1969 to 1972, and at the University of Frankfurt am Main from 1972 to 1990.

Karl-Otto Apel passed away at 95 years old.
