Karl Gunnar Persson was born in 1943 in Borås, Sweden, and died in 2016.

He was a Scandinavian economic historian.

His contribution lies mainly in comparative European economic history.

He was educated as an economic historian at Lund University.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Persson mostly worked as a free lance journalist for the Swedish Radio, journals and newspapers.

His early academic work was in sociometric investigating social mobility.

Karl returned to economic history in the early 1980s.

Persson spent most of his career at the Department of Economics, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Then, as a Senior Lecturer in 1975 and he later became Reader and finally Professor.

Persson was appointed Professor Emeritus in 2013.

He has been a visiting scholar at various universities such as London School of Economics, European University Institute and Australian National University.

Karl Gunnar Persson has had various administrative duties at his Department over the years, including that of Deputy Head of Department.

Karl Gunnar Persson has been the founding president of the European Historical Economics Society and one of the founding editors of the European Review of Economic History.

Karl was a fellow of the Royal Danish Academy.

Karl Gunnar Persson passed away at 73 years old.
