Karen Davey Stewart was born in December 29, 1952, La Grange, Illinois, and died September 7, 2015.

She was an American oil pipeline worker as a compliance and documentation specialist and the co-founder of the World Extreme Skiing Championship.

Karen Davey Stewart attended Fort Lewis College, Colorado in 1976.

She received a BA in Education and Sociology.

Karen was working for the Durango Colorado Ski Corporation at Purgatory Resort.

She was married to John McCune, he was a U.S. Ski team member from New Mexico, they came up with the first backcountry skiing championships.

Karen and her team, including her late husband, pioneered helicopter skiing in Alaska, attracted thrill-seekers like Dean Cummings to Valdez.

She has revived the skiing industry, and her resort brought championship games along with its many competitors.

The many games also attracted spectators and filmmakers like Warren Miller to the back country of the Chugach Mountains were held from 1991 through 2001.

Karen Davey Stewart passed away at 62 yrs old in an ATV accident.
