Kamilló Lendvay was born on December 28, 1928, and died on November 30, 2016.

He was a prominent award-winning Hungarian composer, conductor, and music educator.

He was known in the 20th and 21st centuries.

His works have been performed throughout the world, including in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Lendvay was known for his “characteristic melos, his exactingness regarding form, and a variety of expression.”

Lendvay’s music has been described as “dramatic” “brilliant”, “moving”, “engaging”, “robust”, “fun”;”expressively written”, “wholly original”, and “wonderfully organised.

Kamillo attended the Franz Liszt Academy of Music from 1949-57, where he studied with János Viski and László Somogyi.

Lendvay started his career in Szeged as a conductor, music coach, and director of the choir at Szeged Opera and then was a musical director of the State Puppet Theatre from 1960-66,the musical director of the Hungarian Army Art Ensemble from 1966-68, and conductor.

And, also from 1972, he served as a musical director of the Budapest Operetta Theatre from 1970-74.

Lendvay was a professor at the Liszt Academy from 1972-92, where he was head of the music theory department from 1976.

Kamilló Lendvay passed away at 87 years old.
