José Luis Artetxe Muguire was born on June 26, 1930, and died on March 19, 2016

He was a Spanish footballer.

Jose played as a striker.

The footballer joined Athletic Bilbao in 1950 from neighbouring CD Getxo.

José Artetxe spent 16-years of his career with the former club, making his La Liga debut on 10 September in a 4–0 home win against Atlético Madrid.

He participated in 24 games and contributed 15 goals to help the team win the sixth league championship in their history, in the 1955–56 season

In the few games he had at the San Mamés Stadium, Jose amassed overall totals of 346 matches and 133 goals, also conquering three Copa del Generalísimo trophies (scoring in the 1956 edition, a 2–1 triumph over Atlético Madrid; several years after his retirement, at the age or 35, he still ranked amongst his main club’s all-time scorers.

He gained six caps for Spain, during five years.

José Artetxe made his debut on March 17, 1954 in a 2–2 draw against Turkey for the 1954 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where he scored the game’s first goal in Rome; it was already the third match between the two countries, and the opposition would eventually reach the finals in Switzerland after a drawing of lots.

José Artetxe passed away at 85 yrs old.
