Jórunn Viðar, Icelandic pianist and composer, Died at 98

Jórunn Viðar was born on December 7, 1918 and died on February 27, 2017.

She was an Icelandic pianist and composer.

She was born and grew up in Reykjavík, Iceland.

Jórunn Viðar graduated from Reykjavík Grammar School, in 1937 and the same year traveled to Germany to study for two years at the Music Academy in Berlin.

Jórunn Viðar returned to Iceland and married Lárus Fjeldsted (1918–1985).

During 1946 the family spent some time in New York City where she studied composition at the Juilliard School of Music; after they moved back to Iceland, Jórunn worked as a pianist and accompanist.

Jórunn Viðar was awarded the Riddarakross for accomplishments in music.

Jórunn Viðar passed away at 98 years old.
