Jolanda Insana was born on May 18, 1937, in Messina and died on October 27, 2016.

She was an Italian poet and translator.

During 1968, Jolanda Insana had relocated to Rome where she graduated in Ancient Literature with a thesis on Erinna’s The Distaff.

She was also active as a translator of classical and contemporary authors, she debuted as poetess in 1977, with the collection Sciarra amara (“Bitter Harvest”).

During 2002 she won the Viareggio Prize for poetry for La stortura.

Jolanda Insana’s work was described as “visionary concreteness” by Giovanni Raboni.

Jolanda Insana passed away at 79 years old.
