John McConathy, American basketball player, Died at 86

John R. McConathy was born on April 9, 1930, and died on April 19, 2016.

He was an American professional basketball player and educator.

John McConathy was picked in the 1951 NBA Draft by the Syracuse Nationals after a collegiate career at Northwestern State in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

John played for the Milwaukee Hawks in 1951–52 and averaged 1.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists per contest in 11 games played.

He was a former superintendent for the Bossier Parish School Board, in which capacity he was a driving force behind the establishment of Bossier Parish Community College, at which his son, Mike McConathy, was a basketball coach from 1983 to 1999.

Then, Mike McConathy became a basketball coach at Northwestern State University.

John McConathy passed away at 86 yrs old.
