Joe Moss, English music manager, Died at 72

Joe Moss died on October 22, 2015 from cancer, he was an English music manager.

When the Smiths formed, Joe Moss secured the group with a rehearsal space as well as a PA and a van, and began to guide them through the early stages of their career, finding them record contracts in the UK and America as well as publishing and agency deals.

In late 1983, on the eve of the band’s first trip to the US after the release of This Charming Man, Moss quit unexpectedly.

Joe was described in a statement on Marr’s website as “a patron of the famed Twisted Wheel, and an instigator of the pioneering store Eighth Day”.

The site says that Joe was “also involved in the fashion world, turning his fascination with street style into Crazy Face, a clothing line with a store in Manchester’s Chapel Walks”.

It was here Moss met Marr, aged 17, who worked in the clothes shop next door.

Moss went on to promote shows at Manchester’s Night and Day Cafe and managed Marion, and Haven.

In 1999, he returned to his role as Marr’s manager, and worked in the position until the present.

Joe Moss had his wife Sarah and his children David, Rachel, Ivan, Stella and Edie.

Joe passed away on October 22, 2015 due to cancer.
