Joannis Avramidis, Georgian-born Austrian sculptor, Died at 93

Joannis Avramidis was born on September 23, 1922, in Batumi, Georgia and died on January 16, 2016.

He was a Greek-Austrian sculptor.

His family came from Caucasus Greek origin.

Joannis studied in Batumi and later at Fritz Wotruba in Vienna.

Joannis became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and from 1966 in Hamburg.

He represented Austria at the Venice Biennale, in 1962

Among his many honors he has received the 1956 State Prize of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, in 1958, the Austrian promotion prize for sculpture, in 1961, the Award from the City of Vienna, and in 1961, Hugo von Montfort-prize (Bregenz).

Joannis Avramidis passed away at 93 yrs old.
