Jimmy Bain, Scottish bassist, Died at 68

James Stewart Bain was born on December 19, 1947, in Newtonmore, Highland, in Scotland and died on January 24, 2016.

was a Scottish bass guitarist.

He was best known for playing in the bands Rainbow and Dio with Ronnie James Dio.

Jimmy has worked with Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott, co-writing on his solo albums.

Playing in several provincial amateur bands while he was a young teen, his parents and younger brothers relocated to Vancouver, Canada.

As Jimmy got older, he played professionally in Street Noise.

But, he did join his family for a brief stay in Canada.

Previously returning to Scotland, creating his band Harlot and then hitting the London music scene, Bain joined Harlot in early 1974, after turning down a job with The Babys.

Jimmy Bain was asked to join Rainbow after Ritchie Blackmore had seen him performing at The Marquee in London.

Mr.Bain recorded the studio album Rising with them and played on their world tour.

During the tour, Jimmy played on Rainbow’s first live album, On Stage.

In January 1977, Jimmy Bain was dismissed from the band.

Jimmy then toured Europe with John Cale.

Bain went on tour with Hollywood Allstarz, a supergroup highlighted a variety of 80s metal stars.

The band included former members of Giuffria, Quiet Riot, and Lynch Mob.

The group Last in Line was put together in 2013 comprising Jimmy, Viv Campbell, Vinny Appice, Claude Schnell and Andrew Freeman.

Also, singer Freeman were the original song writers and performers on the early classic Dio albums, and so intended to play gigs and perform these songs.

Jimmy Bain passed away at 68 yrs old.
