Peter Eric James “Jim” Prentice was born on July 20, 1956, and died on October 13, 2016.
He was a Canadian politician who served as the 16th Premier of Alberta from 2014 to 2015.
During the 2004 federal election he was elected to the Canadian House of Commons as a candidate of the Conservative Party of Canada.
Jim Prentice was re-elected in the 2006 federal election and appointed to the cabinet as Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians.
He was appointed Minister of Industry on August 14, 2007, and after the 2008 election became Minister of Environment on October 30, 2008.
On November 4, 2010, he announced his resignation from cabinet and as MP for Calgary Centre-North.
After retirment from federal politics, he entered provincial politics in his home province of Alberta, and ran for the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta to replace Alison Redford, who had resigned earlier that year.
Jim Prentice won the leadership election, on September 6, 2014, becoming both the leader of the Progressive Conservatives and as such the Premier, as his party held a majority in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
Jim Prentice passed away at 60 years old.
