Jean Vuarnet was born on January 18, 1933, in Le Bardo, Tunisia and died on January 2, 2017.

He was a ski racer from France.

The best part of his career was at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley, where he won the gold medal in the downhill.

Before that, Vuarnet had won bronze in the same event at the 1958 World Ski Championships in Bad Gastein.

After retiring from active competition, Vuarnet became vice-president of the French skiing association a role in which he served from 1962 until 1971.

During 1958, Vuarnet married Edith Bonlieu, a three-time French women’s ski champion.

Vuarnet’s wife Édith and his youngest son Patrick were among the members of the Order of the Solar Temple cult who committed suicide in 1994.

Jean Vuarnet passed away at 83 years old.
