Jean-Loup Passek was born on July 29, 1936, in Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris and died on December 4, 2016.

He was a French film critic.

Passek was of Slavic descent.

Jean inherited the merry-go-round in the Jardin du Luxembourg.

He graduated from the University of Paris, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in history and geography.

He started his career as a poet.

He began the editor of all articles on geography in Petit Larousse in 1963.

He authored several books of cinematic criticism, including the Dictionnaire du cinéma published by Éditions Larousse.

He became the head of cinema at the Centre Georges Pompidou in 1978.

He worked on the La Rochelle International Film Festival in 1977.

After year later, during 1978, he worked on the Cannes Film Festival, where he launched the Caméra d’Or with Gilles Jacob.

Jean-Loup Passek passed away at 80 years old.
