Jean Fritz, American children’s writer, Died at 101

Jean Guttery Fritz was born on November 16, 1915, in Hankow, China and died on May 14, 2017.

She was an American children’s writer.

She was best known for American biography and history.

Fritz won the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award for her career contribution to American children’s literature in 1986.

Jean Fritz turned 100 in November 2015.

Her writing career started with the publication of several short stories in Humpty Dumpty magazine early in the 1950’s.

Jean Fritz’s first book was published in 1954, Bunny Hopwell’s First Spring, followed in 1955 by 121 Pudding Street, a work based on her own children.

She married Michael Fritz in 1941.

Together they had two children, David and Andrea.

Jean Fritz passed away at 101 years old.
