Jean-Christophe Yoccoz, French mathematician, Died at 59


Jean-Christophe Yoccoz was born on May 29, 1957, and died on September 3, 2016.

He was a French mathematician.

Yoccoz was awarded a Fields Medal in 1994, for his work on dynamical systems.

He was an IMO-1973 silver medal winner and won a gold medal at IMO-1974.

Jean-Christophe Yoccoz attended the Lycée Louis-le-Grand.

Yoccoz graduated from the École Normale Supérieure with the Agrégation de Mathématiques in 1977.

When he had completing military service in Brazil, he completed his Ph.D. under Michael Herman in 1985 at the École Polytechnique.

Jean took a position at University of Paris-Sud at Orsay and was awarded the Fields Medal at the International Congress of Mathematicians in 1994 in Zurich, where he gave a plenary talk.

Previously, he had been an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in 1990 at Kyoto.[8] At the time of his death, he was Professor at the Collège de France.

Jean-Christophe Yoccoz was a member of Bourbaki.

Jean-Christophe Yoccoz passed away at 59 years old.
