John “Jackie” Sewell was born on January 24, 1927, and died on September 26, 2016.

He was an England International football player.

Sewell played for several teams including Sheffield Wednesday, Notts County and Aston Villa.

After he was transferred to Sheffield Wednesday from Notts County, for £34,500, he was the most expensive signing in English football.

After Sewell captained the newly independent nation of Zambia in October 1964, he became one of the few footballers who had played for two different countries.

John was the last living footballer who played in the Match of the Century on November 25, 1953.

Jackie Sewell passed away at 89 years old.
