Irish musician and composer, Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, Died at 67

Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin December was born in 1950 and died on November 7, 2018.

He was an Irish artist, arranger, scholastic and educationalist.

As a musician, arranger, recording craftsman and scholastic.

Súilleabháin held the Professorship of Music at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance which he established at the University of Limerick in 1994.

Súilleabháin’s children Owen O Súílleabháin and Mícheál ‘Moley’ O Súílleabháin are notable as artist musicians and persuasive orator.

Mícheál’s first spouse is Irish serenade vocalist Nóirín Ní Riain, with whom he worked together during the 1980s on a progression of chronicles with the Benedictine Monks of Glenstal Abbey.

He was granted a privileged D.Mus from the National University of Ireland at his institute of matriculation University College Cork in 2004.

During 2017 Súilleabháin was granted a privileged DMus from the Royal Scottish Conservatoire.

Súilleabháin was granted the Freedom of the Town in his local Clonmel in Co Tipperary in 2016.

He has recorded widely with the Irish Chamber Orchestra.

Súilleabháin established the Irish Music Archive at the Burns Library, Boston College, in 1990.

Súilleabháin was granted the O’Donnell Chair of Irish Studies at the University of Notre Dame,Indiana, in 2016.

During 2017 Súilleabháin started a progression of shows with the RTE Symphony Orchestra (Ireland) at the National Concert Hall, Dublin, recorded and communicated by RTE verse fm (Elver Gleams 2017; Between Worlds 2018).

He was debut Chair of ‘Culture Ireland’ for a long time, the association inside the Irish Government for the advancement of every single Irish workmanship around the world.

In 2016, Súilleabháin resigned from the University of Limerick and was succeeded following global rivalry by Professor Mel Mercier, Chair of Performing Arts, a long-term melodic partner.

In 1995 Súilleabháin was vital to the migration and professionalization of the Irish Chamber Orchestra from their Dublin Base to the Irish World Academy on the University of Limerick grounds.

Súilleabháin set up the flying move organization Fidget Feet as Artists in Residence at the Academy which prompted them reproducing for all time to Limerick City, in 2014.

In 2008 an extraordinarily structured building costing 21 million euro and containing 3000 square meters was opened on the University of Limerick Campus to house the Irish World Academy.

The marvelous building sits on the banks of the waterway Shannon (itself a noteworthy impact in the rationality of the Academy) in a lush territory on the college grounds.

The creative idea of O Súilleabháin’s instructive and aesthetic vision pulled in the global humanitarian association The Atlantic Philanthropies (TAP) alongside the individual enthusiasm of Chuck Feeney, TAP’s originator.

Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin passed away at 67 years old.
