Irina Borisovna Ratushinskaya was born on March 4, 1954, in Odessa and died on July 5, 2017, in Moscow.

She was a Ukrainian-born Soviet dissident, poet and writer.

She was educated at Odessa University and graduated with a master’s degree in physics in 1976.

During 1987she relocated to the United States, where she received the Religious Freedom Award from the Institute on Religion and Democracy.

She died in Moscow from cancer.

Irina Ratushinskaya was survived by her husband, human rights activist Igor Gerashchenko, and their two sons.

Irina Ratushinskaya passed away at 63 years old.
