Iravatham Mahadevan

Indian epigraphist and former civil servant Iravatham Mahadevan was born on October 2, 1930, and died on November 26, 2018.

Mahadevan was an Indian epigraphist and former civil servant.

He was known for his successful decipherment of Tamil-Brahmi inscriptions and for his expertise on the epigraphy of the Indus Valley Civilization.

He was considered in British Burma where his dad Iravatham was rehearsing as a specialist.

He had his tutoring in the town of Tiruchirapalli and graduated in Chemistry from the Vivekananda College, Chennai and law from the Madras Law College.

He effectively passed the Indian Administrative Service examinations held in 1953 and was dispensed to the Tamil Nadu framework.

His The Indus Script: Texts, Concordance and Tables (1977) is the main straightforwardly accessible corpus of the Indus Script.

Mahadevan has composed more than 40 papers to promote the Dravidian theory of the Indus Script and contends for a coherence between the composed records of Indus and the oral transmissions from the Rig Veda.

Iravatham Mahadevan passed away at 88 years old.
