Ion Panțuru, Romanian bobsledder, Died at 81

Ion Panţuru was born on September 11, 1934, in Comarnic and died on January 17, 2016, in Ploiești.

He was a Romanian former bobsledder.

He competed in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Ion started practicing bobsleigh at the age of 24, after playing football at the Divizia B-level.

His was brakeman Nicolae Neagoe, he won the bronze medal in the two-man event at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble.

Winner of the 2010 Winter Olympics, this is Romania’s only medal at the Winter Olympics.

Ion also finished tenth in the four-man event at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo.

In 1973, Ion Panţuru also won two medals in the two-man event at the FIBT World Championships with a silver in 1969 and a bronze.

Ion Panţuru passed away at 81 yrs old.
