He was a Hungarian Communist politician.
Pozsgay played a key role in Hungary’s transition to democracy after 1988.
Imre served as Minister of Culture (1976–1980).
Then, he served as Minister of Education (1980–1982) and Minister of State (1988–1990).
Pozsgay was also a Member of Parliament from 1983 to 1994.
He had two children.
