Imre Kertész was born on November 9, 1929, and died on March 31, 2016.

He was a Hungarian author, Holocaust concentration camp survivor, and recipient of the 2002 Nobel Prize in Literature, “for writing that upholds the fragile experience of the individual against the barbaric arbitrariness of history”.

Imre Kertész was the first Hungarian to win the Nobel in Literature.

Imre Kertész passed away at 86 yrs old at his home in Budapest after suffering from Parkinson’s disease for several years.
