General Igor Dmitrievich Sergun was born March 28, 1957, and died on January 3, 2016.

He was a Russian military officer.

Igor was the Director of the GRU, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, since December 26, 2011.

Mr. Sergun was serving in the Armed Forces since 1973.

Igor Sergun graduated from the Moscow Suvorov Military School and the Moscow Supreme Soviet Higher Military Command School, and the Military Academy of the Soviet Army and as well in the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

Igor has served in the military intelligence force since 1984 and served in various positions in the Main Intelligence Directorate.

He speaks several foreign languages

and was awarded state awards.

He was a colonel serving as an RF Military Attaché in Tirana, Albania, in 1998.

Igor was appointed as Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in 2011.

Igor Sergun passed away at 58 yrs old on January 3, 2016.
