Hugo Gutierrez Vega, born in 1934 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and died September 25, 2015.

Hugo was a lawyer, poet, writer, performer, professor, diplomat and academic Mexican.

He wrote more than thirty-five books of poetry and prose thirteen, some of which have been translated into ten languages.

Hugo was director of the supplement La Jornada Semanal.

He taught at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Autonomous University of Queretaro becoming Rector of the latter from 1966 to 1967.

Hugo was director of the Casa del Lago from 1974 to 1976 as well as director of the Journal of the University as well as director general of Cultural Diffusion UNAM.

He was a member of the Mexican Culture Seminar. He was elected a full member of the Mexican Academy of Language on November 10, 2011 to fill the chair XXXIV. Hugo died on September 25, 2015 at age 81.
