Hovhannes Tcholakian was born on April 12, 1919, in Istanbul, Turkey, and died on September 16, 2016.
He was a Turkish-Armenian Archbishop of the Armenian Catholic Church.
He was ordained a priest in Istanbul on April 25, 1943.
Hovhannes Tcholakian was appointed bishop on May 23, 1966 and consecrated on 16 January 1967.
Hovhannes Tcholakian served as Archbishop of Istanbul, between 1967 and 2015.
During March 2015 the Armenian Catholic Patriarch Nerses Bedros XIX Tarmouni accepted the resignation of Archbishop Tcholakian on grounds of age.
Hovhannes Tcholakian passed away at 97 years old.
