German police officer Horst Herold was born on October 21, 1923, and died in December 2018

Herold was the President of the Federal Criminal Police of Germany from 1971 to 1981.

While under his management, the method for the systematic manhunt of Red Army Faction terrorists, called Rasterfahndung (dragnet), was introduced.

Herold was the author of several essays on policing.

Horst Herold passed away at 95 years old.
