Hokie Gajan, American football player and broadcaster, Died at 56

Howard Lee “Hokie” Gajan was born on September 6, 1959, and died on April 11, 2016.

He was an American football running back.

He played five seasons in the National Football League.

He also played football at Baker High School in Baker, Louisiana, and he received a scholarship to play at Louisiana State University (LSU).

Hokie Gajan was drafted out of LSU by the New Orleans Saints in the 1981 NFL Draft.

After he missed the 1986 season due to a knee injury, Gajan retired in 1987 after injuring the opposite knee.

Over the years of his career, Hokie Gajan rushed for 1,358 yards and 11 touchdowns, and also had 515 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Hokie Gajan was third all-time in yards per carry in a season for a primary running back (one with at least 100 carries in a season) in NFL history.

He worked as a scout for the Saints before he entered broadcasting.

Hokie was the color commentator alongside Jim Henderson on Saints radio broadcasts.

During the fall of 2015, Gajan was diagnosed with a rare cancer known as liposarcoma.

Hokie Gajan passed away at 56 yrs old.
