Hasyim Muzadi, Indonesian Islamic scholar, Died at 72

Achmad Hasyim Muzadi was born on August 8, 1944 and died on March 16, 2017.

He was an Indonesian Islamic scholar and the fourth chief executive of Nahdlatul Ulama, the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia.

Muzadi was also the running mate of Megawati Sukarnoputri in Indonesia’s 2004 presidential election, and a member of Indonesia’s Presidential Advisory Board from 2015 until his death.

During January 2017, the 72-year old Hasyim suffered from exhaustion after he had traveled to several places in Indonesia, soon after he had returned from a trip to Australia.

Muzadi was treated at the Lavalette Hospital in Malang from January 6-17, and then discharged in a stable condition.

Hasyim Muzadi passed away at 72 years old.
