Harambe was born on May 27, 1999, and died on May 28, 2016.

He was a 200-kilogram (440 lb) male critically endangered silverback gorilla.

The gorilla was shot and killed when a child climbed into his enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden and fell into the furrow.

Harambe, the silverback gorilla was bred at the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas.

The gorilla was named by Dan Van Coppenolle after the song “Harambe” by Rita Marley.

He was transferred to the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden on September 18, 2014, to learn adult gorilla behavior and to become a part of a new social group.

The gorilla was shot by zoo officials when a three-year-old boy slipped into Harambe’s enclosure, which was been recorded by a bystander and uploaded to YouTube, where the video became viral.

After this the Zoo director, Thane Maynard stated, “The child was being dragged around … His head was banging on concrete,-This was not a gentle thing,-The child was at risk.”

The shooting of the animal was controversial, with some observers stating that it was not clear whether or not Harambe was likely to harm the child, and others calling for the boy’s parents and/or the zoo to be held accountable for the gorilla’s death.

It is said that the Police are investigating possible criminal charges while the parents of the boy defended the zoo’s actions.

The incident received global publicity for many different notable persons.

Harambe passed away at 17 yrs old.
