Hans-Dietrich Genscher was born on March 21, 1927, and died on March 31, 2016.
He was a German politician of the liberal Free Democratic Party (FDP).
Genscher served as Foreign Minister and as the Vice Chancellor from 1974 to 1992 (except for a two-week break in 1982), making him the longest-serving holder of either post.
Hans-Dietrich Genscher was the only Vice Chancellor in German history to serve non-consecutive terms.
Genscher was chairman of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), in 1991.
Hans-Dietrich Genscher passed away at 89 yrs old.
