Gordon Aikman, British ALS campaigner, Died at 31

Gordon Lewis Aikman was born on April 2, 1985, and died on February 3, 2017.

He was a British motor neuron disease campaigner.

He was also former Director of Research for Better Together.

He studied at Kirkcaldy High School where he was Head Boy, and read Business at the University of Edinburgh.

During 2007, Aikman was elected as the sabbatical officer responsible for welfare and student societies in the Edinburgh University Students’ Association.

Following his graduation, Gordon worked at the Scottish Parliament for the Scottish Labor Party.

During September 2012, Gordon was appointed as Director of Research for the Better Together campaign in the Scottish Independence Referendum.

Since December 2015, he has raised over £400,000 for Motor Neuron Disease research.

And at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival event featuring Frankie Boyle, Stewart Francis and Fred MacAulay in March 2015 raised £25,000.

Gordon has written about his campaigning work and personal journey with MND for The Scotsman, Daily Record and The Herald.

Aikman now writes a monthly column in the Scottish edition of The Sunday Times

He was married to Joe Pike, a political journalist for ITV Border and author.

Gordon Aikman passed away at 31 years old.
