Giorgio Bàrberi Squarotti was born on September 29, 1929 and died on April 9, 2017.

He was an Italian academic and poet.

He was a teacher of Italian literature at the University of Turin from 1967 until his death in 2017.

Squarotti was one of the most important Italian literary critics.

Squarotti was very known for his intense work on important Italian authors such Dante, Machiavelli, Tasso, Manzoni, Verga, Gozzano, and also for his interest in contemporary authors.

Squarotti was director of the historical “Grande dizionario della lingua italiana” UTET.
