Gianni Rondolino was born on January 13, 1932, in Turin and died on January 9, 2016.

He was an Italian film critic and historian.

He was a professor of History and Criticism of Film at the University of Turin.

Gianni Rondolino was best known for a book on the history of world cinema he released in 1977, Storia del cinema, informally known as “Il Rondolone”.

The Italian founded and also directed for several years the Turin Film Festival.

Gianni was the author of several essays and monographic, including books on Luchino Visconti, Roberto Rossellini, Walt Disney, Tex Avery, the magic lantern and the Turin-based silent cinema industry.

Gianni Rondolino passed away at 83 yrs old.
