Georgy Grechko, Russian cosmonaut, Died at 85

Georgy Mikhaylovich Grechko was born on May 25, 1931, and died on April 8, 2017.

He was a Soviet cosmonaut.

Grechko flew on several space flights including Soyuz 17, Soyuz 26, and Soyuz T-14.

He graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Mechanics with a doctorate in mathematics.

Grechko was a member of Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

Grechko went on to work at Sergei Korolev’s design bureau and from there was selected for cosmonaut training for the Soviet moon programme.

After that program was cancelled, he went on to work on the Salyut space stations.

Georgy Grechko passed away at 85 years old.
