Indian yoga teacher Geeta S. Iyengar was born on December 7, 1944, Pune and died on December 16, 2018
She was the eldest daughter of Yogacharya B. K. S. Iyengar.
She was a yoga teacher credited with advancing yoga for women’s health.
Her father was the founder of the worldwide Iyengar yoga method, Yogacharya B. K. S. Iyengar, was described as “the world’s leading female yoga teacher”.
She studied yoga with her father from an early age.
During 1961, after graduating from high school, she began substituting for her father when he was away on international teaching tours.
From the day of her father’s retirement in 1984, Geeta Iyengar was co-director, with her brother Prashant S. Iyengar (b. 1949), of the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) as well as undertaking her own international teaching tours.
Geeta Iyengar passed away at 74 years old.
