Gaúcho, Brazilian football coach and player at 52

Luís Carlos Tóffoli, known as Gaúcho was born on March 7, 1964, in Canoas, Rio Grande do Sul and died on March 17, 2016.

He was a Brazilian football player (Center forward) and manager.

Luís spent his youth years in Rio de Janeiro club Flamengo, then he started his professional career in 1984 at Grêmio.

Then he was transferred to Atlético Goianiense, in 1985

Gaúcho played for the XV de Piracicaba, in 1986, then, one year later, he moved to Santo André where he stayed until mid-1988.

Gaúcho played for Palmeiras, between 1988 to 1989,

Goalkeeper Zetti got injured, Luís Carlos Tóffoli was the one selected to replaced him, on November 17, 1988, during a Campeonato Brasileiro Série A match against Flamengo.

The game when into penalty shootout, the match ended in a 1-1 draw in regular time, he saved two Flamengo penalties and Palmeiras won 5-4.

And then, in 1990, Gaúcho signed a three-year deal with Flamengo.

Back at his youth club, Gaúcho was the winner of the 1990 Copa do Brasil, 1991 Rio State Championship and 1992 Série A.

During this period, Tóffoli played 198 matches and scored 98 goals.

When his contract ended, he joined Italian Serie A side Lecce, where he failed to make a breakthrough with only five games played.

Tóffoli left the club after half-season and signed with Boca Juniors where once again he failed to repeat his good performances.

Back in Brazil, in 1994, he joined Atlético Mineiro where, once again, he played with his good friend Renato Gaúcho.

During the following year, his last as a professional footballer, Tóffoli played for Ponte Preta and Fluminense.

Gaúcho passed away ta 52 yrs old.
