Fredrik Norén, Swedish jazz drummer, Died at 75

Fredrik Norén was born on April 21, 1941, and died on May 2016.

He was a Swedish jazz musician (drums) and band leader known for his numerous recordings.

During the 1960s, Noren was active in the jazz circle “Gyllene Cirkeln” and played with the likes of Ben Webster and Dexter Gordon.

Then in the 1970s, Fredrik was involved in the bands of Lars Gullin.

When he formed his own F.N. Band (born 1978) Fredrik has fostered a number of young jazz talent and released a series of albums, Jazz in Sweden (1980) as the first. Furthermore, he released The Snake (1984), Juan Carlos (1988) and To Mr J (1990).

With his own label he made the albums City Sounds (1991), live from the Fasching jazz club in Stockholm, One Day in May (1995) with the jazz singer Lina Nyberg, The pelican (1997), T (1999), FNB Plays (2002), Moon Rush and Live at Glenn Miller Café.

All the band members varied, most recently including Lars Ekman on bass, Peter Fredman on alto saxophone Calle Bagge/Jonas Östholm on piano and Nils Janson on trumpet.

Working with Joakim Milder, Bobo Stenson and Palle Danielsson, he released Sister Majs Blouse (1993) which gave Grammy – later published Epilogue with music of Börje Fredriksson (1998).

In the trio band with Christian Spering and Joakim Milder released the album Association.

Joining a foursome with Bernt Rosengren, Lars Sjösten and Palle Danielsson, he released Late Date playing the music of Lars Gullin.

Eventually, he released the Sweden Bahia Connection – Coneccão Suecia Bahia recorded in Brazil by Brazilian musicians (2004).

Fredrik Norén passed away at 76 yrs old.
