Francis Thorne was born on June 23, 1922, in Bay Shore, New York and died on March 7, 2017.

He was an American composer of contemporary classical music and grandson of the writer Gustav Kobbé.

Various selection of his over 100 compositions was characterized by a distinct jazz flavor.

Thorne was also one of the first classical composers to write for the electric guitar and electric bass guitar (Sonar plexus, 1968; Liebesrock, 1968–69).

Francis Thorne passed away at 94 years old.
