Ernst Ottensamer was born on October 5, 1955, in Wallern an der Trattnach in Upper Austria and died on July 22, 2017.

He was an Austrian classical clarinetist.

His father, also named Ernst Ottensamer, was a former mayor of Wallern.

He studied the clarinet at the Bruckner-Konservatorium in Linz.

Ottensamer continued his studies in Vienna at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Wien), where he completed his studies in 1979.

Ottensamer’s teachers included Peter Schmidl.

He joined the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera in 1979.

Ottensamer became principal clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1983.

Ottensamer joined the faculty of the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Wien in 1986, and subsequently attained the title of Universitätsprofessor (University Professor) in 2000.

Ottensamer was a founder-member of such chamber ensembles as the Wiener Bläserensemble (Vienna Wind Ensemble), Wiener Virtuosen, and the Wiener Solisten Trio.

Cecilia was his wife they had a sons.

He died due to a Heart attack.

Ernst Ottensamer passed away at 62 years old.
