Erland Kolding Nielsen was born on January 13, 1947, and died on January 23, 2017.

He was a Norwegian academic.

Since 1986, he has been the Director General and CEO of The Royal Library, Denmark (i.e. The National Library of Denmark, the Copenhagen University Library, the National Museum for Books and Printing, the National Museum of Photography, the Danish Museum of Cartoons).

MA in history, Thesis for the Gold Medal of the University of Copenhagen, 1973.

He taught history and library science at the Royal School of Librarianship, Copenhagen, and from 1971-80, he served as the head of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences 1980-86.

He served as the Head of the Education of Research Librarians and Documentalists 1984-86, and also part-time Associate Professor at the Institute of Contemporary History, University of Copenhagen, 1973-83.

He was the Professor Adjunct, in the Faculty of Humanities, the University of Copenhagen since 2013.

He was the author and editor of 14 books in history, historical bibliography, egyptology, library history, library science and architecture, former editor of two professional journals, on the editorial boards of 4 others, and long-time editor of the scholarly monograph series Danish Humanist.

Erland Kolding Nielsen passed away at 70 years old.
