Edward Hugh, Welsh economist, Died at 67

Edward Hugh was born on December 29, 1948, in Liverpool and died on December 29, 2015, in Girona.

He was a Welsh economist.

He spoke French, Catalan, Spanish and English.

Hugh studied at the London School of Economics but was drawn more to philosophy, science, sociology and literature.

Edward eclectic intellectual pursuits kept him not only from getting his doctorate but also prevented him from landing a full-time professor’s job.

By disposition of a macro economist, his obsession with comprehending the economic impact of demographic changes often took him far from Economics and towards fields like demography, anthropology, biology, sociology and systems theory.

His work was focused on the study of demographic changes, migration patterns, and the impact of these on economic growth.

Hugh published his first book entitled “¿Adiós a la Crisis?” during 2014.

Edward wrote the book in Spanish and it discusses the economic condition in Spain.

Hugh worked on a book with the interim working title “Population, the Ultimate Non-renewable Resource”.

He participated in A Fistful of Euros and his own personal blog, Edward also wrote regularly for the demography blog Demography Matters.

He was a well known Indian Economy blogger.

Edward has been dubbed by The New York Times as “the blog prophet of Euro zone doom”.

He spent his last days in Catalonia, Spain, where he lived since 1990.

Edward Hugh passed away at 67 yrs old on December 29, 2015, due to cancer.
