Edward Daly, D.D. was born on December 5, 1933, and died on August 8, 2016.

He was an Irish Roman Catholic priest and author.

He was appointed the Bishop of Derry from 1974 to 1993.

He had participated in several civil rights marches and events during the Troubles; he appears in the iconic photograph from Bloody Sunday, waving a blood-stained white handkerchief as he escorts a group carrying a mortally-wounded man after British troops opened fire on demonstrators.

When in office, Bishop Daly was fully styled as His Lordship the Most Rev. Edward Daly, D.D., Lord Bishop of Derry. Since leaving office, he has been fully styled as His Lordship The Most Rev. Edward Daly, D.D., Lord Bishop Emeritus of Derry.

Edward Daly passed away at 82 years old.
