Eduard Amstad, Swiss judge and policitian, Died at 93

Eduard Amstad-Baumann was born on March 19, 1922, in Beckenried, Canton Nidwalden and died October 12, 2015.

He was a Swiss judge and politician.

Amstad was the son of Supreme Court President Eduard Amstad and the nephew of States Josef Mary Amstad.

He attended a secondary school in Altdorf and Stans Amstad.

Amstad was first in the Infantry School in Luzern formed and subsequently as an infantryman used in the war.

He had study law at the University of Fribourg, Zurich and Lausanne as well as the promotion for Doctor iuris at the University of Freiburg.

In 1949, Amstad joined the Judicial Service and worked as examining magistrate.

In 1976, Amstad work as a lawyer.

At the same time he began a political career with election as a member of the municipal council of Beckenried, where he until 1958 belonged (from 1955 as Mayor.)

Amstad served as a member of the district administrator elected by Nidwalden.

In 1962, he was elected to the Executive Council, which he presided over the Justice Department.

In 1965 Amstad was the author of the Constitution of the Canton of Nidwalden and thus one of the first new cantonal constitutions.

In the elections in 1967, Amstad was the receiver of Werner Christen to representatives of the canton Nidwalden in the Senate voted and represented the interests of Nidwalden until his replacement by Norbert Zumbühl in 1976.
He then served until 1987 as a federal judge on the Federal Insurance Court in Lucerne and 1987-1992 Ombudsman of Private Insurance operates.

From 1969-1982 and from 1986 to 1990 Amstad was the President of the Foundation Board of the Foundation Höfli in Stans.

Amstad member of the fraternity AV Fryburgia and thus of Swiss Student Association.

Eduard Amstad passed away at 93 yrs old.
