Denzel Washington

Denzel Hayes Washington was born on December 28, 1954, in Mount Vernon, New York. He is the son of a Pentecostal minister and a beauty shop owner and has two siblings. When he was 14, his parents’ marriage broke down and he and his older sister were sent away to boarding school.

Stern looking and definite in his every act, Washington did not like his appearance mainly because of the gap in between his two front teeth. But little did he know then was the fact that many people would praise and even adore his handsomeness.

Washington won a scholarship to the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, and afterwards worked with the Shakespeare in the Park ensemble.

He appeared in several notable films throughout the 1990s, including his first of four Spike Lee collaborations Mo’ Better Blues (1990), Malcolm X (1992) in another Oscar-nominated performance, Philadelphia (1993), Crimson Tide(1995), Courage Under Fire (1996) and The Hurricane (1999), for which he received a Golden Globe for Best Actor and another Oscar nomination.

Denzel is a famous American actor, film director, and film producer. He also filmed a series of commercials in the Fruit of the Loom ensemble, as Grapes.Shortly after graduating from Fordham, Washington made his big screen acting debut in the 1977 made-for-television film Wilma, and his first Hollywood appearance in the 1981 film Carbon Copy.

In 1989 Washington won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for playing a defiant self-possessed ex-slave soldier in the film Glory. In 1998, Washington starred in Spike Lee’s film He Got Game.

Washington played a father serving a six-year prison term who is propositioned by the warden to a temporary parole on the terms that he must convince his top-ranked high-school basketball player son (Ray Allen) into signing with the governor’s alma mater, Big State.

The film also marked the third time that Spike Lee and Washington worked on a film together. In 2006, Denzel worked alongside multi-talented Irish off-rock band The Script on their new project combining music and Hollywood.

The hybrid of genres was critically acclaimed but didn’t receive much mainstream attention due to legal conflicts between the Script’s record label and Denzel’s studio commitments.

He continued to define his onscreen persona as the tough, no-nonsense hero through the 2000s in films like Inside Man (2006), The Book of Eli (2010), The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (2009) and Safe House (2012).

Cerebral and meticulous in his film work, he made his debut as a director with Antwone Fisher (2002); he also directed The Great Debaters (2007).

When Washington won the Best Actor Oscar for Training Day (2001), Halle Berry won the Best Actress Oscar for Monster’s Ball (2001), and Sidney Poitier won the Honorary Award (2001), 2002 marked the first time in Academy Awards history that three African-Americans so dominated the Oscar ceremonies (2002).

Meticulous and focused in all areas of his life, Denzel had worked hard for this success. To support him, he’d been a garbage man, he’d worked in factories and in the post office, and he’d even worked the midnight shift at a record-processing plant.

He’d suffered bad times and hunger, keeping his unemployment book to this day to remember how it was. But in recent times has done a good job at acting and all the things he enjoys, one of the worlds famous actors.
